MEASURING MIDRAILS

For those measuring a window with multiple vertical window panes, we recommend designing your shutters with a midrail to match the design of your window. A midrail is a fixed element, about the size of shutter louvre, that is designed to cover a window transom (horizontal bar on your window). You can choose to design your shutters with up to two midrails.

WHEN MUST I ADD A MIDRAIL?

For larger shutters, midrails can assist with the integrity of the panels and prevent them from sagging. If the drop of your window is greater than 1520mm, you will be required to add one midrail. If more than 2032mm, you'll need two midrails.

MEASURING THE POSITION OF YOUR MIDRAIL

Measure from the bottom of the window to the middle of the point you decide on.

  • For an inside mount, measure from the bottom of the recess

  • For an outside mount, measure from the edge of the architrave or bottom of window sill

If measuring for a second midrail, measure as above, from the bottom of the window to the point of the second midrail).

If you're covering an obstruction with a midrail, such as a lock or window winder, close your window and measure to the very centre-point or tip of the obstructions.

A midrail point may be altered by +- 15mm to ensure that we can fit all louvres (shutter blades) evenly on your shutter. You can request to have a critical midrail, which means that it will be placed at the exact height specified. You may want to to do this if you have multiple shutters in a room and want all midrails to appear at the same height. (Please notify our team if you would like to have a critical midrail). If there are two midrails required for your shutter, you may only select one critical midrail.

MEASURING MIDRAIL FOR AN INSIDE MOUNT WITH AN ARCHITRAVE

  • For one midrail, measure from the bottom of the recess to the central point of the midrail

  • For a second midrail, measure again from the bottom of the recess to the centre point of the second midrail

MEASURING MIDRAIL FOR AN OUTSIDE MOUNT WITH AN ARCHITRAVE

  • For one midrail, measure from the edge of the architrave to the central point of the midrail

  • For a second midrail, measure again from the edge of the architrave to the centre point of the second midrail

MEASURING MIDRAIL FOR A WINDOW WITH A SILL

  • For one midrail, measure from the top of the window sill to the central point of the midrail

  • For a second midrail, measure again from the top of the window sill to the centre point of the second midrail
